SUMMER OF 2010

“AUTOMATED SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING”

Paine’s has been performing manual recycling for over 20 years.  A change you have asked for and will see in the coming months is automated single-stream recycling. 

What does this change mean to you?

• Simply; more convenience.  All your recyclable items will be deposited in the new blue automated 95 gallon barrel and placed curb side for pick-up on your scheduled every other week collection day.

When should you see your new blue automated barrel? 

• West Hartford residents will start seeing barrels being delivered the first week in May.  Please remember that automated single-stream collection will not begin until June 7, 2010 and you should continue using your existing bins until that date. 
• For our subscription customers, Simsbury, Avon, Canton, East Granby, Hartland, Barkhamsted, Winsted, New Hartford & Winchester, barrels will start being delivered the first week in June with a scheduled start date for automated single-stream recycling of June 22, 2010.  Please continue using your bins until that date. 
• Wethersfield residents will start seeing barrels being delivered the second week in June.  Your first scheduled collection day will be July 5, 2010 so please continue using your bins until that date. 

The overall objective of “Automated Single-Stream Recycling” is to encourage and allow people to recycle more material while reducing the amount of trash they throw out.  We have seen up to 30% increase in the amount of recycling collected using this method.  Another benefit will be to our environment.  Less trash to dispose of, more resources to be saved and fewer Paine’s trucks on the road reducing emissions.

Another exciting announcement from CRRA, as of May 1, 2010 #3 through #7 recyclable items will be added to the list of acceptable recyclable items that can be placed in your Paine’s recycling receptacle.   Please continue to refer to this site regularly for updates as the projects roll out.
